Yahweh’s Watchman

The last week or so I been working through the book of Habakkuk and thought I would leave a summary of the study in this post. This a outline comes from David Pawson’s book Unlocking the Bible. One of the best books you could read.

Historical background

Habakkuk, who’s name means to embrace, hugged or clinger due to his unique interegation of Elohim, prophesied to the Southern Kingdom during the reign of Jehioakim. This vision occurred 20 years after Zephaniah. Jehioakim was appointed by Pharoah Neco to reign in his father, Josiah’s place. In order to thank the Pharoah for his appointment, Jehioakim collected gold and silver as a tax to be paid as a tribute. Nebuchadnezzar looted the temple in his reign and took all the temple treasures fulfilling what Isaiah said to Hezekiah after he showed the two men from Babylon his treasure house in 2 Kings 12-20! Under his reign the law again became paralyzed after the revival in Josiah’s days. Jeremiah, a contemporary of Habakkuk prophesied quite heavily against Jehioakim. Jer 22,25,26,36,45,46.

Some reflections…

My work has kept me quite busy the last week or so that resulted in me not being able to sit down and blog regularly as I wish. Instead of sitting in front of the computer to write, I have instead immersed myself in reading when I had a spare moment.

The stuff I was reading was of a theological nature, but the application is for the everyday disciple in Christ. Most disciples, like myself, find certain disciplines easier than other.

Coram Deo…

2 Co 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord the Spirit.

Beholding…the Act of Transformation.

We become what we associate with, is a basic principle in life. Spiritually there exists even a greater greater rule: You become what you behold! This thought becomes very important when we talk about worshiping Christ.

The term Coram Deo means literally “before the face of God”. I even like the definition “under the Gaze of God”.

Does anbody asked you about your Athritis?

2 Cor 3:18,”But we all…”

Continuing on the process of transformation I will consider the environment of change in this post.

Mamie made frequent trips to the branch post office. One day she confronted a long line of people who were waiting for service from the postal clerks. Mamie only needed stamps, so a helpful observer asked, “Why don’t you use the stamp machine? You can get all the stamps you need and you won’t have to wait in line.” Mamie said, “I know, but the machine can’t ask me about my arthritis.” Read the rest of this entry »

Process for Transformation…

There is a story told of a boy whose was very poor. He never complained even though at christmas and birthday time he did not receive any toys. But he did wish for them. He spent his free time looking at the store windows at the pretty things other boys could have but could not. One day he was run down by a car and was taken to hospital. When he started to feel better one of the nurses brought him a toy. As he touched it he said,”There is not a glass between.” Read the rest of this entry »

Salt of the Earth…

I’ve been living in a first world country for the last 3 months. Apart form the obvious changes I went through, the most significant change you pick up is the spiritual climate. Or the lack of spiritual climate. Paul’s first chapter to the Romans reads like a Sunday tabloid and it is an accurate picture of the world we are living in. It is an accurate description when society stop trying to live Godly lives and reverting from moral soundness, He would give people up to their own ways . This issue made me think about the role of The Church in the world. I recently listened to a message from David Pawson on the topic: a Shrinking Church in a secular Society. Here is some thoughts about it. Read the rest of this entry »
